TV Box Converter Program Faces Heavy Demand

January 9, 2008 · No Comments

When Congress mandated that all television broadcasters switch to a digital signal by February 17, 2009, they knew that many currently existing analog TV sets could not receive the new digital signals without a special converter box or subscription to cable or a digital television service.

The U.S. Department of Commerce began the TV Converter Box Coupon Program on January 1 that provides $40 coupons toward the purchase of digital converter boxes to those with analog television sets. The digital converter boxes are expected to retail between $50 - $70. Widespread use of digital tuners did not begin until 2004, so there are millions of television viewers that will be affected by the switch from analog to digital.

The program is being administered by the Commerce Department’s National Telecommunications and Information Administration, which has reported in a press release that the program is more popular than the government anticipated.

Hannah Montana Rolls into North Little Rock

January 5, 2008 · 1 Comment

The Hannah Montana Best of Both Worlds Tour rolled in North Little Rock, Arkansas’s Alltel Arena on December 1, and like venues everywhere, the seats were gone in a matter of minutes. All the ticket angst led to quite a build-up, and fortunately the show lived up to the hype, especially for Hannah Montana and Miley Cyrus fans.

For those of you who have been living under a rock, Hannah Montana is a Disney-created pop star by night, who morphs into dorky Miley Stewart by day. The show has spawned a cottage industry of t-shirts, dolls and posters and two bestselling sountrack CDs. The voice behind the platinum blond wig and sparkly stage clothes is Miley Cyrus. The Best of Both Worlds tour gives fans the chance to see Hannah Montana in all her glittery glory and also gives Cyrus a chance to introduce her fans to her own brand of aggressive pop.

Merry Christmas

December 24, 2007 · No Comments

Merry Christmas to all of my friends!  This has been a good year. I’ve sold some short stories and I’ve almost finished my first submission-worthy novel.  It’s finished, Im just polishing it.  I should have a submission by New Years.  Wish Me luck!

I did some research into different publishers and I found a few great books.  Check out “Tempted by Two” by Anya Bast and “Thirty Days” by Shayla Kersten.  They are published by Ellora’s Cave and Liquid Silver, respectively.

Is it time for the election yet?

December 20, 2007 · No Comments

I’m getting tired of the sniping.  As long as the candidates have been campaigning, everyone should know who they are voting for by now.  Let’s call a politics moratorium for a month.  I’m politically active and I’m almost to the point of not caring anymore.

Blake Lewis: ADD

December 7, 2007 · No Comments

I gave Blake Lewis’new CD a listen.  Don’t get me wrong, it’s pleasant and everything, but didn’t we already have the 80s?  Rumor has it that Ryan Tedder helped out on the CD.  I thought Ryan and Blake were friends.  This CD was an awful thing to do to a friend.  Blake was already facing a lot of naysayers because his beatboxing skills seem to outweigh his singing talents, and I don’t think this CD is going to help

Unemployment Pushes Afghanistan Youth to the Taliban

November 17, 2007 · No Comments

The resurgence of the Taliban in Afghanistan has led many to believe that the country’s young men are turning to the hard line Muslim group because of religious beliefs. Religious beliefs are playing a small role in the increased numbers of Taliban fighters, though. According to a press release from the Institute for War and Peace Reporting, many of the new recruits turn to the Talban as a last resort to escape unemployment and crushing poverty.
